Welcome to the WisABA Blog

WisABA (Wisconsin Association for Behavior Analysis) has grown greatly in the last year. We have more members, an annual conference that was extremely well received, and are busily working on the 2009 conference, holding regular meetings to plan next year's activities, and will be sponsoring a series of WisABA Socials where members and interested parties can share their interest in Behavior Analysis.

Parents, educators, clinical psychologists, business managers--anyone dealing with behavior, and that's all of us--have a stake in the ability of behavioral scientists to deal with the challenges that our culture confronts. Just a few of the many that Behavior Analysis has already addressed include:
*Autism--a devastating problem that Behavior Analysis has addressed more successfully than any other approach.
*Education--effective instructional practices are known and stand ready for use.
*Medicine--many of today's health problems are behavioral (e.g., weight control, smoking, exercise, etc.)
*Basic research--we now know more about the causes of problematic behavior than ever before.
*Parenting--effective parenting is within reach. Families needn't struggle with many of the problems that cause discord.
In short, we have positive, effective techniques for dealing with many of the problems that seem intractable.

WisABA wants you to join us in advancing humane, effective methods for improving our quality of life.

Roger Bass, PhD
Past President, WisABA

Reading reports from clinicians for individuals referred to my program, I am consistently seeing that few clinicians -- behavioral or otherwise -- have a good idea of who is providing behavior analytic services in the Upper Midwest. Maybe a post could be started soliciting lists of known aba professionals providing services in and around WI. Of course, I think we would have to stay away from endorsements and keep close to simply providing a collaborative listing. If desired, I could assist in setting-up a simple form linked to a google spreadsheet which would tabulate results.

Where are the other BA's in our organization? Of course posting people in WI who serve is inportant. Perhaps, we should dividie the state into at least four parts -- NE, NW, SE, SW since it is so large.

I'm getting set to start BCBA exam prep -- anyone interested in sharing reviews of prep materials?

I like MattW's idea of publishing a list with profiles of those who are providing services in WI without endorsing them.

I was so suprised to see my picture!!! Let's have some others publish their pictures too. Corky

I am so happy to have found this blog! I am a BCBA currently living in FL, but I am originally from the Milwaukee area. If I can find a job, I hope to move back there eventually. Anyone know what the job opportunities are like up there? Currently, the majority of my job consists of consulting in schools with both typical students as well as students with various developmental disabilities which I very much enjoy!
